Many people live in a world of unprecedented material abundance while still feeling a deep sense of not being or having enough. In this episode of Deeper with Darshana, Darshana Avila sits down with Isha Vela to explore why that disconnect exists and how to expand your notions of wealth and embark on a transformative and healing journey with your sense of enoughness. Spoiler alert: it’s got everything to do with embodying rather than intellectualizing!
This conversation reframes wealth not as accumulation, but as sufficiency, presence, and relational flow.
What It Means to Code the Body with Sufficiency
Isha introduces the idea of “coding the body with sufficiency,” pointing to how scarcity is often embedded in the nervous system long before it’s ever reflected in our bank accounts. Scarcity is inherited through ancestral experience, reinforced by systems of oppression, and normalized through cultural conditioning.
Even when resources are available, the body may still respond as if they are not. Coding the body with sufficiency means helping the nervous system recognize safety, support, and enoughness in the present moment.
Abundance Versus Sufficiency
While abundance suggests excess or overflow, sufficiency speaks to enoughness. Both are beautiful in their way, yet in a dominant culture that tends to be excessive about excess, Isha emphasizes that sufficiency includes healthy limits and personal discernment. What feels like enough materially, relationally, or energetically will differ from person to person, and it’s important to get to know what “enough” truly is for you.
Sufficiency is not about deprivation. It is about alignment and integrity. It is about knowing when needs are met and allowing the body to rest there.
Why Wealth Is More Than Money
Throughout the conversation, Darshana and Isha expand the definition of wealth. Clean water, nourishing food, safety, health, community, and meaningful relationships are all named as sources of wealth. When material wealth is absent, leaning into these other forms of abundance can create a felt sense of richness that stabilizes the nervous system and supports resilience.
The Overlap Between Money and Intimacy Conditioning
A powerful theme in the episode is the parallel between financial conditioning and intimacy conditioning. Many people outsource financial power to partners, institutions, or authority figures, much like they outsource emotional or erotic fulfillment to a single relationship.
This narrowing creates scarcity. Diversifying relational and financial ecosystems allows for flow, resilience, and reciprocity.
Needs, Wants, and the Language of Desire
Darshana and Isha explore the difference between needs and wants, noting how often they are confused. Beneath many material desires are deeper needs for autonomy, safety, creativity, play, and belonging. Learning to name those deeper needs creates clarity and reduces compulsive striving.
Stewardship, Flow, and Community Wealth
Isha reframes money as neutral energy that reflects relationship patterns. Hoarding often emerges from fear and lack, while stewardship arises from sufficiency and trust. Community-based models such as mutual aid and shared resource pools are named as ways people have historically supported collective thriving, reminding listeners that wealth does not need to be isolated or individual.
How to Begin Shifting from Scarcity to Sufficiency
Rather than offering quick fixes, Isha invites listeners to slow down and notice. Notice where support already exists. Notice moments of comfort, beauty, and care. Allow the body to register these experiences emotionally and somatically. Sufficiency begins with awareness, presence, and the willingness to receive.
